In Florida, it’s best to avoid becoming stranded in a pond or lake, since alligators may be lurking in the water. Unfortunately for Darlene*, that was exactly the predicament that she found herself in one afternoon.
Darlene was driving her golf cart in a park and accidentally veered off the trail and slid into the edge of a pond.
Because she was unable to reverse the golf cart out of the pond, she immediately used her Freeus emergency alert pendant to get help.
“My golf cart is in the water halfway, up to the top of the wheels!” she exclaimed to AvantGuard team member Shae, who answered her call.
Shae asked Darlene where she was, but she had a hard time understanding Darlene in her panicked state. After calming Darlene down, Shae asked more detailed questions to gain a better understanding of the situation.
“I’m in the park, and my golf cart is in the water!” Darlene exclaimed. “The cart is sinking!”
Since the park was surrounded by three different lakes, Shae asked Darlene questions to determine her exact location and to help take her mind off of her worries.
“I am scared there might be alligators nearby,” Darlene said. “The cart is going further into the water!”
Shae seamlessly switched between calls with Darlene and dispatch, gathering information from Darlene and relaying that information to dispatch.
Because Shae was calm under pressure and was persistent in getting the best information possible, EMS arrived on scene within 10 minutes to help Darlene get out of the water.
