It’s rare that a Freeus dealer needs to use a Freeus mPERS device in an emergency, but that’s exactly what happened for dealer Melissa Froelich.
Melissa used to think of Freeus mPERS devices as something for an “it could happen” or “what if it happens” situation.
But in March 2015, it became an “it did happen.”
Melissa left her office that day to surprise her daughter at her soccer game, with her Freeus emergency alert pendant accompanying her as usual. As Melissa pulled up to a stoplight, a 16-year-old who had her license for just four days made a left turn and came into Melissa’s lane.
“I went to swerve away from her, and squared up. She hit me in between the doors of my SUV, and rolled my SUV three times down the road,” said Melissa. “I ended up landing on the side of my SUV, still strapped in with my seatbelt.”
“No cell phone”
“I had no cell phone; it had flown to the back of my vehicle,” Melissa said. “And so the only thing I could do is realize that I was ok, and push my device button.”
Melissa’s device quickly connected to help.
“I was able to inform them I had just been involved in an accident, I had rolled my car, and I needed help,” she said. “A few seconds later, people started coming around, making sure that I was ok. I was able to unbuckle my seatbelt, get down on the passenger side and crawl out of my sunroof.”
A few minutes later, police, EMS and fire arrived on site.
“It was frightening, very frightening,” recalled Melissa.
Telling her own story to prospective clients
Now, when Melissa discusses Freeus mPERS with prospective customers, she has a much more personal tale to share.
“I do tell people about my story. Every time I go out there, whether it’s talking to someone at the store or at a meeting, I explain to them that it actually did happen. I did have to use it,” she said.
“And thinking about, if I wasn’t on a busy street, if I was somewhere in a remote area, what would I have? I’d have my device. And that is just a peace of mind.”
Melissa shared with a laugh that her husband enjoys the fact that now when she goes shopping, she always takes her Freeus mPERS “shopping buddy” with her.
“My husband is a little bit better with that than if I was just going by myself, because a cell phone can get knocked out of your hands,” she explained. “The device is in your pocket, in your purse, or on your keys and can be readily available if ever needed.”
